Jan 24 2011

Nearly two months after the release of Black Friday, the internet is still buzzing. Jay Rock’s first offering on Strange Music spawned a series of singles that left fans nodding their heads for days. From the hypnotic melodies of West Coast bangers to the soulful samples heard throughout Black Friday, Jay Rock dropped one of the best tapes of 2010. Now as we have all had time to bump Jay Rock’s mixtape, we would like to know what you consider to be the best single from Black Friday.

“No Joke” Jay delivers a hardcore gangsta tale over a piano loop that sets in the somber undertones of “No Joke”. Jay is joined by Ab-Soul on the chant-worthy hook.

“Diary Of A Broke N*gga” Featuring Kendrick Lamar and Giddy, this soulful groove details the harsh realities of living life on the streets. Jay’s narrative skills are exemplary on this heartfelt single.

“Still In The Hood” This club banger borrows its hook from a 50 Cent sample and allows Jay flow over explosive production. This single combines the right amount of elements from club hits and Jay’s street swagger.
