It’s Cash Kings season, and Forbes looks deeper into the machine behind the man: Tech N9ne.
With Forbes’ Cash Kings list released and Tech N9ne making the list, it only makes sense to interview the other piece of the puzzle, Strange Music CEO Travis O’Guin. From profiting in the furniture business to building a multi-million dollar record label, he shows with multiple consecutive tours and consistent releases, Strange Music is still in the process of growing.
He takes time to talk about Tech N9ne, who made #17 on the Cash Kings list, that though his success is eminent in the industry, he is still passionate about his label and the other artists on it. He plays an avid role in A&R, which together bring a group of supportive, talented artists with respect and love for Strange Music.
Strange also spends a lot of resources making sure that Tech N9ne fans get exposed to those other acts. The label’s rappers frequently tour together, appear on each others’ albums, and even big-up each other on social media. Even ads and CD samplers for new albums always feature other upcoming Strange releases.
However, Strange Music goes beyond the artists and albums while staying at home base. The collaboration with Dash Radio, an online internet radio station run by DJ Skee, expands the audience beyond the fanbase built around the artists. Also, the building of Strangeland Studios keeps everything run in-house and close to home.
With a hard-working team consistently pushing for the success of Strange Music and the artists representing the name, the growth towards Strange’s highest peak is still in the works. With everyone constantly working, Travis O’Guin takes the lead and strives continuous growth for everyone representing the snake and bat.
“He is the epitome of work ethic. When the guy who’s supposed to be the CEO is doing things like that, there’s absolutely no excuse why anyone who is a component here at Strange Music can’t do the same or more.”
