After listening to Tech N9ne’s intricate storytelling and chopper flow, one may wonder where it all came from. In BET BLX’s latest episode, we’re given a brief tour of Tech’s old stomping grounds and the key events that went down before starting his independent powerhouse.
Playing the tour guide for the Wayne-Minor Projects here in Kansas City, Tech talks growing up in his gospel-listening household, attending the Kansas City Zoo with his friends, and beat-boxing for a friend who rapped. Eventually building up the confidence to spit a few bars, Tech went from beat-boxer to rapper, finding the art form that would soon become his full-time job.
When it came time to graduate, I won a rap contest – I won! Out of all of the rappers that had been rapping longer than me and everything, I won. It fell on my graduation date. What do you think I chose? My friends were walking across the stage, getting their diplomas. I said, ‘This is what I’m going to do for the rest of my life.’ Guess what happened?
